Ernesto Gismondi
Ernesto Gismondi has played a significant role in progressive design circles. An Italian designer and engineer, he previously studied aeronautical & aerospace studies in Milan. He co-founded the lighting manufacturing firm Artemide with Sergio Mazza in 1959 and designed a variety of lights himself, including the Tholos wall lamp and the Zen and Tebe floor lamps. The company is perhaps best known for the “Tizio” desk lamp designed by Richard Sapper in 1972 and the “Tolomeo” desk lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1986. Or, perhaps for Magistretti's “Eclipse.”
