febe suspension lamp
Design Ernesto Gismondi, 2017
Injection-molded plastic, polycarbonate
Made in Italy by Artemide
Febe is built around an optical engine that ensures maximum yield with minimum thickness, delivering enough light to illuminate an entire room. Its minimal design makes it almost invisible in space, with a uniform light disk that protrudes from the surface of the ceiling/wall. The color frame can be seen only from the side, as Febe focuses on high performance light emission.
Gismondi has played a significant role in progressive design circles. An Italian designer and engineer, he previously studied aeronautical & aerospace studies in Milan. He co-founded Artemide with Sergio Mazza in 1959 and designed a variety of lights. He resided as the president of the progressive Memphis design group, vice president of ADI, involved with the Milan Triennale and connected with a number of ministerial commissions on design.
* Body in injection-molded plastic
* Diffuser in injection-molded polycarbonate
* Colored frame only visible from the side of the fixture

Ernesto Gismondi
Ernesto Gismondi has played a significant role in progressive design circles. An Italian designer and engineer, he previously studied aeronautical & aerospace studies in Milan. He co-founded the lighting manufacturing firm Artemide with Sergio Mazza in 1959 and designed a variety of lights himself, including the Tholos wall lamp and the Zen and Tebe floor lamps. The company is perhaps best known for the “Tizio” desk lamp designed by Richard Sapper in 1972 and the “Tolomeo” desk lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1986. Or, perhaps for Magistretti's “Eclipse.”
The Artemide light has never been solely a function of seeing, or an opportunity for formal experimentation with lamps as objects. For more than forty years, Artemide has aimed to propose light as a companion to people, as a source of physical pleasure and mental comfort. Artemide has done so, with different work groups, searching through the whole design process, starting with a declaration of values - The human light. Beyond the definition, the human light is intelligent light. A light that knows it has to relate to people, accompanying them in their daily activities.
