"Balance between our innate five senses and things around us, is very vital in product making. To understand the delicate balance between Nature and Wisdom in our daily lives from our ancestors, is to live naturally along the guiding path towards our future."
- Toshiyuki Kita
A design that responds to the needs of modern-day society and the rhythms of life in the era of the home office, where the technology is "always on", as much in the home as it is in the work space. Aki - Biki - Canta is a family of swivel chairs that share the same seat & base, each with a unique back section. Aki features a squared-off back support with no arms. Biki's back section has wings that curve around and act as armrests. Canta also has two asymmetric arms, one of which articulates up and becomes a headrest if needed.
The objective was to create a mobile sitting-room in the form of a comfortable and dynamic armchair that could swivel through 360 degrees, while also being comfortable. Suited to many contexts, including the "soft contract" setting, this chair is also available with an arm-rest on either side, one of which can serve as a head-rest. Additionally available with castors, please contact Hive for assistance ordering options not shown online.
Aki - Biki - Canta won the 1997 Good Design Award and is featured in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Saint-Etienne, France.
