Model 780/783 Nesting Side Tables
from Cassina
model 780/783 nesting side tables
Design Gianfranco Frattini, 1966
Beechwood frame, laminate top
Made in Italy by Cassina
A collection that became emblematic of the 1960s, an era of optimism and experimentation, when the focus was on unremitting functionality. As these four low tables have graduated heights, they can be stacked to form a sculptural effect reminiscent of a drum. The Nested set of 4 tables is available in two diameters.
Gianfranco Frattini was born in Padua in 1926 and graduated in architecture at the Milan Polytechnic in 1953, where he remained working there right up to his death. His professional activity was concerned principally with interiors and industrial design. He was an assiduous participant in shows and exhibitions and his design projects won a large number of prizes. In 1956 Frattini was one of the founders of the ADI, Association of Industrial design, for which he carried out a lot of different activities. His presence was habitually felt at congresses, conventions and furniture fairs all over the world.
The frames are in beechwood, either in a walnut stain, or in a black lacquer finish. The black laminate top is reversible, the underside being lacquered white. Today, as in the past 60 years, this model is a popular choice. Their progressively decreasing heights allow them to be stacked on top of each other, creating a single compact form that optimizes space.
