Design Konstantin Grcic, 2014
Aluminum, steel, polyamide

"Designing a lamp is no longer limited to working around a given bulb. Today, it means designing the actual bulb or light source. This challenged me to think of Parentesi, a lamp that celebrated the traditional bulb in the most effective and beautiful way. Would it be possible to rethink the Parentesi lamp once more and pass the Manzů-Castiglioni torch on to the future?" -Konstantin Grcic

The OK lamp provided direct light. The head is gloss varnished or chromed die-cast aluminum. Body in injection-stamped PA66+30%FV with cover in gloss varnished or chromed die-cast aluminum. Konstantin Grcic

Konstantin Grcic (b. 1965, Munich) trained as a cabinet maker at Parnham College in England and studied design at the Royal college of Art in London from 1988 to 1990. He then founded the KGID office (Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design) in 1991, which led to commissions from leading firms in furniture, design, and architecture. Grcic creates industrial products widely described as pared down, simple, essential, or minimalist. His take on minimalism differs from the current fashion in its function in human terms, combining maximum formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humor.
The furniture manufacturers and entrepreneurs Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina founded Flos which became one of the leading Italian light manufacturers in the second half of the 20th century. Its origins lay in the energy of Arturo Eisenkeil who, in 1959, was seeking to find applications for a new, plastic-based material that he was importing to Italy from the United States. Called cocoon™, it was a spray-on plastic coating that Gavina and Cassina recognized as having potential for lighting design. From the outset, Flos established its reputation through its innovative lighting designs from Achille Castiglioni. The collaboration with Achille Castiglioni continued through the '90s, and in 1992 he introduced the "family of products" concept to the market with the Brera series. At the same time, Flos continued to scout for emerging talent at an international level. The first Philippe Starck lamp was produced in 1998, followed by the Miss Sissi lamp, Romeo Moon, and Archimoon series.
