saya sled base chair

Design Lievore Altherr Molina, 2013
Plywood, wood veneer, steel, upholstery
Made in Italy by Arper

Saya is a mark, a gesture, a graphic sign, rendered in wood to finish a space like a signature. Fluid in line, warm in material, its silhouette is bold and striking. The sum is more than the parts: Saya inspires inclusion in diverse environments from home to contract.

Made for both residential and contract use, Saya is available as a chair and a stool (in two heights variations 19 1/2'' and 20 3/4''), manufactured in oak and finished in teak and natural stain. Color stains - open pore lacquered - include white, black, ochre and three shades of red to permit a variable yet cohesive combination. Upholstered shells are available for all Saya chairs and stools. Chairs are available with sled, four-leg in wood and four-leg in chrome-finish steel bases, while stools are available only with in a sled base. Sled base and four-leg chrome-finish steel versions are stackable to allow for large-scale use and storage. Saya Mini is a small version of Saya designed for children. Wood shells are available in painted white, yellow, red, pink and natural wood. Painted metal sled bases are available in white, yellow, pink, red and chrome.

Saya chair with sled base is offered with or without upholstery applied on the seat. It is provided with glides with felt inserts for wood floors. It is also available fully upholstered. Saya chair without upholstery can be stacked up to 10 chairs and Saya with seat cushion can stack up to 6 chairs with stacking protection pad (please call to specify). Stacked chairs with weight in excess of 25 kilos requires a handling tool.

Altherr & Molina Lievore

Lievore, Altherr, & Molina was created in 1991 by the merging of its three experienced designer partners: Alberto Lievore, Jeannette Altherr, and Manel Molina. This prolific design group has designed products for Arper and is also known for interior design, and packaging. Beyond their own design, the studio deals in the consulting and art direction of various companies, always offering customized solutions. They extend this knowledge into a dedicated teaching practice too, offering seminars and training to new professionals through universities.
Arper's origins are of a leather workshop founded by Luigi Feltrin, the company President. His passion, supported by innovations from his sons Mauro and Claudio, give Arper their distinct place in the design world. The company's scale grew in the late 1990's when they began using new materials and technologies, as well as due to a collaboration with the firm Lievore Altherr Molina. Among the classics that came from this collaboration is the Catifa chairs, which are available in 5 different versions and have sold over a million units since 2001. Today, Arper's policy is focused on environmental quality and sustainability, while using low-emitting recyclables.
