charles pollock cp1 bench
by Charles Pollock, from Bernhardt Design
charles pollock cp1 bench
Design Charles Pollock, 2013
Steel frame, upholstery
Made in USA by Bernhardt Design
In 2012, the 82-year-old Charles Pollock introduced his first new product in America since the debut of his iconic Pollock Chair forty-seven years earlier. Likened by the iconic designer to a classic Jaguar sports car, the CP collection blends a sleek, aerodynamic stainless steel frame with a luxurious natural leather seat and exquisite craftsmanship to create a truly timeless functional piece of art. Bernhardt Design has introduced the CP1 bench to complement Pollock's existing lounge chairs and tables.
Pollock's designs were governed by two principles. Creatively, he favored a continuous curved line when sketching ideas and creating forms. The second principle was that any product must be visually attractive, functional, and affordable. His designs were technically advanced, yet easy to manufacture at a reasonable price. Pollock is the recipient of numerous awards and his work is exhibited in many museums around the world.
CP1 bench features a polished stainless steel frame and a hand-quilted seat and back with a looped stitched cording tracing the perimeter of the chair. It is available in your choice of a variety of felt and leather upholstery options. You may select a contrasting looped stitching color from the selection provided, or Bernhardt Design will select the color that best matches the felt/leather selection.

Charles Pollock
Pollock's designs are governed by two principles. Creatively, he favored a continuous curved line when sketching ideas and creating forms. The second principle was that any product must be visually attractive, functional, and affordable. His designs were technically advanced, yet easy to manufacture at a reasonable price. Pollock is the recipient of the Dutch Institution for Industrial Design and Pratt Institute's Excellence by Design Award. In 2012, the 82-year-old Pollock introduced his first new product in America since the debut of his iconic Pollock Chair forty-seven years earlier. Pollock’s new collection CP Lounge was commissioned by Bernhardt Design.
Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world's first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Behar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
