cloud sofa
by Marcel Wanders, from Moooi
cloud sofa
Design Marcel Wanders, 2012
Steel & wood frame, molded foam, dacron, steel connections
Made in The Netherlands by Moooi
Have you ever wished that you could fall into the softness of a white cloud that looks like cotton candy? After a brief reality check this daydream is forgotten, until you catch a glimpse of the Cloud sofa by Marcel Wanders, a composition of rounded shapes & soft white cushions. The sofa is available in a wide range of upholstery options and carries the comforting sensation of falling into a fluffy cloud on a bright sunny day.
Marcel Wanders grew up in Boxtel, the Netherlands and graduated cum laude from the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988. His fame started with the iconic Knotted Chair in 1996. He is now designing for the biggest European contemporary design manufacturers including Moooi of which he is also art director and co-owner. He works on architectural, interior design and consumer home appliances. His designs have been selected for the most important design collections and exhibitions around the world.
The Cloud sofa is constructed in wood and foam, where the foam parts are connected to the wood base by steel connectors. The foam of the side, seat and back are covered with dacron. The finish of the upholstery buttons depends on the choice of fabric color. Optional pillows in images are not included.

Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders (1963) was born and raised in Boxtel, the Netherlands, and graduated cum laude from the Institute of the Arts Arnhem in 1988, after briefly attending the Design Academy Eindhoven. Wanders first drew international recognition for his 'Knotted Chair' produced by the Dutch design brand Droog, in 1996. The 'Knotted Chair' has since been acquired by the permanent collection of the MoMA. From his studio in Westerhuis, Amsterdam, he designs for manufacturers, such as: Alessi, B&B Italia, Bisazza, Poliform, Moroso, Flos, Boffi, Cappellini, Droog and Moooi.
Founded in 2001 by complementing personalities Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers Moooi is named after the native Dutch word for "beautiful." According to the company "the 'third "o' in the brand name stands for an extra value in terms of beauty & uniqueness." In additon to Wanders' work Moooi has produced work from Bertjan Pot, Maarten Baas, Ross Lovegrove and Studio Job. Ultimately Wanders is responsible for the overall design selection process.
