gaia high-arm sofa
by Arik Levy, from Bernhardt Design
gaia high-arm sofa
Design Arik Levy, 2008
Polished aluminum base, upholstery
Made in USA by Bernhardt Design
Inspired by contours found both in the natural world and the vivid imagination of designer Arik Levy, the Gaia collection is intuitive and inspiring. Smooth forms, balanced proportions and clean lines characterize Gaia and perched on her curved metal base, she seems to float in mid-air.
From his Paris-based company L design and together with his partner Pippo Lionni and their team of designers, Levy develops projects in industrial, interior and graphic design for the European and international markets. His technical skills and creativity are reflected in a variety of subjects and disciplines. Levy’s work has been exhibited worldwide in museums, alternative spaces, galleries and fairs and is held in permanent collections of prestigious international museums and institutions.
The Gaia collection is offered in a variety of sizes and options and feature a polished aluminum base with levelers. The collection is level 1 & greenguard certified.

Arik Levy
Arik Levy was born in 1963 in Tel-Aviv but at the age of 27 left behind his graphic design studio and surfboard shop for Europe. In 1991, he graduated from the Art Center Europe in Switzerland with a distinction in Industrial Design. After winning the Seiko Epson competition in Japan, Levy focused on his career as a professional designer and participated in several design exhibitions. Upon returning to Europe, Levy introduced his ideas, innovative concepts and installations to contemporary dance and opera set design applications staged around the world.
Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world's first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Behar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
