ch111 chair
by Hans Wegner, from Carl Hansen & Son
ch111 chair
Design Hans Wegner, 1970
Stainless steel, European down & cold foam, upholstery
Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son
Fully upholstered seat and back provide outstanding comfort to make CH111 equally suitable at the conference table or the desk. Let your eye follow the back legs as they gently twist to embrace the chair back: a meeting between form and function that only Wegner could envision.
Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller's architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers' Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an 'Honorary Royal Designers for Industry' in 1959.
The CH111 includes upholstered armrests and a stainless steel base.

Hans Wegner
Hans Wegner’s thoughtful high quality work contributed to the popularity of Danish Modern design. His style is described as Organic Functionalism. He designed over 500 different chairs with many famous icons among them. Wegner worked as a cabinet maker's apprentice and soon attended the Danish School of Arts & Crafts and the Architectural Academy.
Carl Hansen invited Hans Wegner to create designs in 1949 and launched a mutually beneficial relationship bringing success to the company and exposure to Hans Wegner. Wegner was still relatively unknown, but soon gained wide acclaim that continues to today as a Master of Danish Modern Design.
