In the course of the company's long experience, Tecno has created solutions that have become archetypes in the world of furniture. P40 is the "chaise" par excellence: versatile, functional, with a strong personality able to characterize any ambience. It was designed by Osvaldo Borsani in 1955. It features mobile parts with height adjustable backrest, auto-adjusting armrests and a metal structure. The base is offered in satin nickel or painted black. It is finished with a removable cover in either leather or fabric. The collection is completed by the D70 sofa.

Osvaldo Borsani

Osvaldo Borsani

Osvaldo Borsani (1911-1985) kept close family ties. The son of furniture craftsman Gaetano Borsani, he joined the family business as a furniture designer after completing his degree at the Politecnico di Milano. Throughout the 1940's and early 50's, Borsani produced a large body of work including case goods, storage pieces, and seating. Especially noteworthy was his 1946 wall-mounted shelving system. In 1953, Osvaldo and his twin brother Fulgencio founded a firm called Tecno which became known for its technology and research based approach to furniture design, as well as its use of rubber and foam. Tecno was at the forefront of a post-war design movement that experimented with ideas of utopia and extreme modernity.
Italian firm Tecno was founded by Osvaldo and Fulgenzio Borsani. Using Osvaldo's designs, Tecno soon established a reputation for innovative design, particularly in the use of metal frames and polyfoam upholstery. This reputation was boosted by participation in the Milan Triennale of 1954, where visitors could see the flexible D70 divan-bed. This was followed by the highly versatile P40 lounge chair, which could be adjusted to a variety of seating and reclining positions.
