Alcove Highback 2 Seater Sofa
by Bros Bouroullec from Vitra.
alcove highback 2 seater sofa
Design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2008
Tubular steel frame, metal, MDF, polyurethane foam, upholstery
Made in Germany by Vitra
The central idea behind the Alcove sofa is that a sofa can be much more than just a piece of furniture. This is especially true of the Alcove Highback sofa, whose side and back panels tower over the heads of those sitting in it. Sitting within the Alcove Highback, you cannot be seen or heard from the outside, and find yourself in a secluded space. Thanks to the outstanding acoustic qualities of the Alcove Highback sofa and its function as a visual screen, it creates a truly peaceful oasis - especially in spacious living areas. This effect is even more pronounced when two sofas are positioned face to face, thereby defining a room within a room. The Alcove Ottoman is a comfortable complement.
The two brothers, Ronan and Erwan, have been working together since 1999. Their collaboration is a constant dialogue, nourished by their single identities and strived towards a common goal. Today, the Bouroullec brothers work with numerous manufacturers such as Vitra, Cappellini, Issey Miyake, Magis, Ligne Roset, Habitat and the Kréo Gallery. They were named "Creator of the Year" in 2002, elected "Designer of the Year" in 2003 and have won multiple other awards. Their creations have been exhibited in many collective or solo exhibitions and are part of some permanent museum collections around the world.
The Alcove sofa is offered online with the 'Lounge' upholstery. Can also be specified with the 'Work' upholstery by calling the hive showroom. The sofa includes two matching backrest cushions. The frame, supporting structure and legs can be specified in polished chrome or powder-coated (smooth) tubular steel.
