lcp chaise lounge chair
by Maarten V Severen, from Kartell
lcp chaise lounge chair
Design Maarten van Severen
Transparent or batch-dyed PMMA
Made in Italy by Kartell
LCP - "Low Chair Plastic" - is a fitting name for this low lounge chair. Created with a single piece of molded transparent plastic which spirals around itself to form a radically innovative seat. Thanks to an exclusive technology, LCP is elastic, soft and resistant in spite of its light and transparent appearance. It is an outstanding and sophisticated chair for the most perceptive connoisseurs of design and and fits with elegance into any environment.
Formal clarity and simplicity are distinguishing aesthetic features of Maarten Van Severen's designs. His work, hand produced in his workshop in Ghent Belgium, reflects his quest for perfection in form, detail and fabrication. Their appearance is restrained and elegant. Every element is structurally motivated and reduced to its essential form. Maarten works in a variety of different materials: aluminium and ply to bakelite and polyester.

Maarten V Severen
The son of an abstract painter, Maarten Van Severen completed three years at a Ghent art school before going to work in various agencies on interior design and furniture projects, and then focusing on furniture. His work, hand-produced in his workshop in Ghent Belgium, reflects his quest for perfection in form, detail and fabrication. Maarten worked in a variety of different materials: aluminium and ply, to bakelite and polyester.
The Kartell image and history are best described through the company's products. The development, corporate strategies, attention paid to technology and design can be appreciated by observing the products Kartell has produced. Kartell products express the language and the atmosphere of the period in which they were created and at the same time they are "contemporary articles". They incorporate many values and messages and this is why they have become an integral part of our design world.
