lean mirror
by Niels Bendtsen, from Bensen
lean mirror
Design Niels Bendtsen
Wood veneer, mirror
Made in Italy by Bensen
Lean is a departure from the traditional picture frame mirror. It is full-length, floating off the floor and resting gracefully against the wall at a 5° angle, reflecting an image head to toe at a close distance. At the same time, the noticeable separation from the wall gives Lean grace and presence.
Lean is simple in form, yet its appeal is in the details. The mirrored surface contrasts with the thick wood panel it is affixed to. The lip at the base of the frame that holds the mirror in place is the same depth as the glass, making for a sleek, seamless unified surface.
Lean mirrors are a combination of core panel construction and veneers. The clear lacquer coat protects the veneer from daily use, while bringing out the natural colors and patterns of select species. The 5 mm thick mirrored glass has polished edges and is carefully bonded to the structural frame. Lean sits on inset rubber feet that protect the frame from the floor. Each mirror includes a wall mount safety bracket, which securely holds the mirror to the wall.
Lean is available as a wide or narrow mirror in a variety of wood veneers.
narrow: 23.5" L | 1.5" d | 84" h
wide: 32.75" L | 1.5" d | 72" h

Niels Bendtsen
Born in Denmark, Niels Bendtsen and his family immigrated to Canada in 1951. In place of a formal design education, he trained as an apprentice for his father, who designed and built Scandinavain furniture. Through working with his father, Bendtsen gained valuable skills and a respect for non-industrial, hand-built traditions, but he was also intrigued by new technologies and ways to satisfy incresing demand. Between 1963 and 1972, Bendtsen had his own retail store where he sold his father's furniture, as well as imported Scandinavian designs. He designed small items for the store, but it wasn't until he was in his early thirties that he truly began designing furniture. Dissatisfied with the quality and limited functionality of the furniture he received from his overseas manufacturers, Bendtsen sold his store, moved to Europe and became a full time designer.
Bensen is a design and manufacturing group founded in 1981 by Niels Bendtsen. The Bensen philosophy balances simplicity and honesty so designs may continue to grow in todays ever changing world. Born in Denmark Niels Bendtsen and his family immigrated to Canada in 1951.
