A fun, cheerful, and colorful kilim, Happy creates a play of transparencies from overlapping oblique strips. In this new kilim, neutral colors alternate with more intense ones, which are declined in different shades, generating a sensation of depth. The marked graphic character of HAPPY denotes Sandra Figuerola's taste for geometric patterns, as well as her mastery of color.
Sandra Figuerola studied Fine Arts at the San Carlos Art School in Valencia. In 1984, along with 10 other partners, she founded La Nave design studio, a distinctive concept on the national design scene, inextricably linked with a particular period of Valencian design. She stayed with La Nave until it was disbanded in 1991. In 2010 she set up a new studio, El Almudín, with six other partners. She works in various areas ranging from graphic design, editorial design, corporate identity and industrial and textile design, collaborating with both Spanish and international companies. She is very interested in cultural design, especially in the contemporary languages of music, dance, fine arts and theatre.
Her professional activities also extend to the field of education; she has been involved in the Graphic Design masters course at the CEU San Pablo Catholic university, and continues to teach in the San Carlos Faculty of Fine Arts. Her work has been published in magazines and books about design and she has taken part in many exhibitions, including: Perspectives of Spanish Design, Design Museum, London (1990). 20 Dissenyadors Valencians, IVAM (1994). Diseño Industrial en España, Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Centre (1998). Contemporánea, Espai d'Art Contemporani de Catellón. (1999). Signos del Siglo, Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Centre (2000). Pasión. Spanish Design, Berlín (2002). Sin Límites, Palacio de Sástago. Zaragoza (2003). D'Après. Versiones, ironías y divertimentos, MUVIM (2005). Suma y sigue, MUVIM (2009).
