Design Ralph Rapson & Loll Designs
Recycled high-density polyethylene, 304 grade stainless steel
Made in the USA by Loll Designs

Ralph Rapson liked to sketch and he was quite fond of dreaming-up furniture. With this whim of a Bar Cart one can easily picture Ralph with an ice filled low ball glass floating beside him while he dreamt up a rolling bar where he could mix up the next. As all Loll Rapson works, staying true to the drawing is crucial. Quench any whim with Loll's Rapson Bar Cart and the entire Rapson Collection.

In 2011, Loll joined forces with one of the great names of mid-century design and one of the most prolific, well-loved architects of the twentieth century. Ralph Rapson (1914-2008) was part of an exhilarating era in American Modernist architecture/design and produced hundreds of furniture designs, many of which are alive and influencing designers today. He earned architecture degrees at the University of Michigan, and at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he studied under Eliel Saarinen. During his time at Cranbrook met and worked with Charles Eames, Harry Bertoia, and Harry Weese. Later he taught architecture at the New Bauhaus School (now IIT Institute of Design) in Chicago under Laszlo Maholy-Nagy from 1942 to 1946, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1946 to 1954. He was Head of the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota from 1954 to 1984.

Almost a decade ago, Loll CEO Greg Benson ran into Ralph's son Toby at an event in Minneapolis. Toby was working to put his father's classic designs back into production, and his meeting with Greg prompted Toby to rethink his father's notable rocking chair in the Loll model: As an eco-friendly outdoor rocking chair made with recycled materials. Based on 1939 drawings by Ralph, the Rapid Rocker was manufactured by K G. Knoll Associates under Ralph's supervision before his death. The Loll team collaborated with Toby to translate Ralph's drawings into their signature material: weatherproof and responsible recycled plastic. We like to think Ralph would be pretty pleased knowing his modern chairs are now made with both materials and manufacturing capabilities not available when they were first conceived.

Loll products are made with recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) primarily from milk jugs. Milk jugs are used due to their lack of pigment so Loll's vibrant colors can be created. As Loll material is a post-consumer recycled material, the medium to create the material does inevitably fluctuate. Material color and texture may slightly vary from sheet to sheet and thus product to product may have slight variances. USA made aluminum inserts mated with a 304 grade stainless steel bolt in all joinery. Richlite paper composite is used for structural elements in some pieces. Arbor Wood thermally modified wood can also be found in a select few products. All materials are chosen for their high quality, no maintenance, performance and longevity.

A cable hole can be added to the legs for light-duty securing of furniture, especially when you want to be able to have some movement of the piece (cable not included). The Rapson Collection is partially made from recycled plastic, which means it's easy to clean and requires no maintenance.
