happy woven rug
Design Gunilla Legerhem Ullberg
Wool, linen
Made in Sweden by Kasthall
A relative to the rug Doris, Happy is meant to reflect the feeling you get when you walk on it. Created by Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, Happy is one of Kasthall's more intricate designs. The woven chenille rug in pure wool with lurex is separated into various sections in carefully considered color schemes. Every yarn and pattern change adds further layers of complexity. Such a design requires great skill and patience, but the result is a truly spectacular rug.
Known as the "Queen of Rugs," Gunilla was the Lead Designer at Kasthall for 28 years between 1987 and 2015. She designed most of Kasthall's classic collections, such as Moss, Fogg, Häggå, and Tekla. She received numerous prestigious design accolades for her work, among them "Designer of the Year" by Elle Decoration in 2012. In December 2015, after a hard-fought battle with cancer, Gunilla passed away. A true legend in the industry, her legacy and timeless designs will remain significant for generations to come.
Sustainability is rooted in Kasthall's history from the beginning and continues today in their work and ambition to contribute to a sustainable future. They use a circular approach to design and a fully-traceable supply chain to reduce the impact on people and planet. It is part of their commitment to local Swedish production and a made-to-order system that creates less waste. Kasthall uses third-party environmental declarations and assessment to ensure reliability.
