Balders Hage is a new take on Ingrid Dessau's '60s long-pile rug. The design team selected it from Kasthall's archive because it characterized the previous era but still worked well in a modern setting. The new version was designed by Kasthall's former head designer Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg. She transformed the woven long-pile rug into the iconic "Moss" design, a hand-tufted rug in wool and linen.
Ingrid Dessau was a pioneer in Sweden's modern textile and design history, known for her unique perspective and exceptional talent. With roots in the southern Swedish folk crafts tradition, she studied textiles and worked as a designer, developing patterns for rugs, fabrics, and embroideries. Ingrid was as much an innovator as she was a creator. She always welcomed new ideas, whether they were about developing Kasthall's visual language or embracing new weaving techniques. Ingrid worked at Kasthall for almost 25 years, between 1954-1978. It is impossible to think of Kasthall's rug factory in Kinna during this period without also thinking of Ingrid Dessau from Svalöv.
Sustainability is rooted in Kasthall's history from the beginning and continues today in their work and ambition to contribute to a sustainable future. They use a circular approach to design and a fully-traceable supply chain to reduce the impact on people and planet. It is part of their commitment to local Swedish production and a made-to-order system that creates less waste. Kasthall uses third-party environmental declarations and assessment to ensure reliability.
The rug is made from wool yarn (70%) and linen (30%), custom sizes are available, please contact Hive for assistance ordering sizes not shown online. Depending on the natural materials used and the varied hand-crafted processes in production, dimensions of the rug may vary by up to 2%. Pile height is approximately 2".
