Skagerak Noboru Step Ladder
from Fritz Hansen
skagerak noboru step ladder
Design MSDS Studio, 2018
Solid FSC™-certified oak
Skagerak by Fritz Hansen
Noboru means "to climb" in Japanese and is a multifunctional step ladder. The lower step can slide in, taking up less space and turning the step ladder into a stool or side table. Under the step a short handle is milled, so you can grab it and pull it out and push it back in. The minimalistic step ladder in solid oak has slim profiles on all edges allowing the assembly to be visible, which gives Noboru its aesthetic excess in the overall elegant and discrete expression.
MSDS is a Canadian design studio established by Jessica Nakanishi and Jonathan Sabine in 2013. The studio occupies themselves with topics like resourcefulness, practicality, materiality and legible forms. They welcome the inspiration that comes with each project and try to look for a way 'into' each design. That means looking at it from multiple angles until finding a core idea to revolve the project around. The studio aims at creating objects and spaces that acknowledge the past, respond authentically to the present, and point to a viable future. MSDS's objects and furniture bridge contemporary culture while adhering to the abiding principles of good design and the inheritance of craftsmanship.
