Bocci 38Vt Table Lamp
by omer arbel from Bocci
bocci 38vt table lamp
Design Omer Arbel, 2019
Blown glass, brass, braided metal coaxial cable
Made in Vancouver BC by Bocci
38Vt is a variant of the original 38 series where a large glass sphere is blown with a multitude of haphazard interior cavities, which intersect and collide in unpredictable ways. 38V is smaller, lighter and available in this table lamp variant. The interior cavities can be filled with plants or left empty.
The 38Vt includes an integral dimming system housed within a sleek brass cylinder. The black fabric cord is semi-rigid and may be sculpted to add form. The brass stand has a small notch on the underside, allowing it to be hung on a wall if desired.
Bocci Creative Director Omer Arbel explores the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials as fundamental departure points for making work. His interdisciplinary practice spans multiple scales and cultural-economic contexts. Omer Arbel's work has been exhibited in various museums around the world. In 2005, Bocci was founded in a red barn surrounded by hay fields, on the periphery of Vancouver, Canada. The company launched with one product, 14, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. Today, Bocci has a growing portfolio of contemporary design ranging from light installations through to furniture and electrical sockets. All Bocci designs are developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale.
