Nyhavn Wall Lamp
from Louis Poulsen
nyhavn wall lamp
Design Alfred Homann & Ole V. Kjær, 1976
Powder-coated aluminum or untreated, brushed copper
Made in Denmark by Louis Poulsen
Well-proportioned compact outdoor wall luminaire comprising of domed top, a vertical column with three rings, and large conical shade. The shade and lower diffuser ensures comfortable downward light in a wide distribution. The small rings surround a clear cylinder that emits light. The rings are carefully designed to avoid striped shadows, controlling glare while illuminating the top of the conical shade. The shade interior has a white matted painted surface, ensuring uniform light distribution. Copper variant is untreated and will patina over time. The Nyhavn Wall Lamp is part of a product family which includes a larger area post top.
The Nyhavn Wall Lamp was designed by Alfred Homann and Ole V. Kjær in 1976 and won a prize in a competition held by Louis Poulsen for lighting in old and heritage urban areas. Homann explains the idea behind the wall fixture: "It was important that the fixture was smaller and more discreet than the other products on the market at that time. The light is characterized by a cone-shaped shade and three anti-glare rings which emit soft light directed upwards."
* Requires 1x 15W E26 bulb
* Untreated copper designed to weather and patina
* Powder-coated variant will maintain its finish
* IP44 rated (safe for use outside)
