bulbul tea kettle

Design Achille Castiglioni, 1995
18/10 stainless steel with polyamide handle and whistle
Made in Italy by Alessi

Bulbul is a perfect kettle imagined in the rounded shape of a curling stone: it presents a new way of handling this object, almost as if to suggest an invitation to play by sliding it across the kitchen surface. Bulbul reveals Achille Castiglioni's extraordinary ability to transfer qualities and functions into a project from objects belonging to completely different spheres. This game of transfers has often resulted in the equally famous ironic dimension of many of his works.

Achille Castiglioni was a renowned Italian industrial designer often inspired by everyday things. He made use of ordinary materials, preferring to use minimal materials to create a maximal effect. He was best known for his lamps for Flos; Luminator, Arco, and the Snoopy Lamp.
Alessi was founded in 1921 to produce crafted metal accessories for the kitchen. Alberto Alessi launched Alessi into high design through collaborations with designers like Philippe Starck and his Juicy Salif citrus squeezer.
