originals butterfly chair
Design Lucian Ercolani, 1958
Ash wood
Made in the UK by L. Ercolani
The Ercolani Originals are pieces of timeless and classic design that never date or show their age. It is furniture that is as relevant and as functional now as it was when it was created in the 1950s and 1960s.
The voluptuous curves on this design create an intrinsically eye-catching chair. The inherent springiness in the bent plies of the seat and back and the sculpted recessed shape, as well as the molded wing shaped back provide a comfortable sit.
First launched in 1958 the Butterfly chair is as fresh today. With its distinctive curved bent plies, reminiscent of the profile of a butterfly's wings, the butterfly chair is one of ercol's most iconic designs. The chair goes wonderfully with the 382 Plank table.
This furniture was designed by ercol’s founder, Lucian Ercolani, who drew for his inspiration on the time proven local design and craft in the Chiltern Hills around where he lived and built his first factory in 1920 in High Wycombe.
A feature of this dining chair is the classic Windsor wedge joint, where the leg of the chair goes right through the seat; a wedge is then inserted into a cut in the leg, forming a remarkably strong joint. Sanded off flush with the seat, the joint then provides a beautiful design element. The Butterfly chair can be specified in natural finished Ash wood or in a range of environmentally friendly water based stains to fit in with your style and decor.
20.75" w | 18" d | 32.25" h | seat: 18.5" h
