bm1106 huntsman chair
Design Borge Mogensen, 1950
Solid wood, stainless steel or brass, saddle leather
Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son
Seven decades after it was designed, Carl Hansen & Son reintroduces a modern classic with a stringent and rational expression: the Huntsman Chair by Borge Mogensen.
Presented by Borge Mogensen at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Furniture Exhibition in 1950, the Huntsman Chair unites two distinct design expressions: simplicity and complexity. As the chair helped define Mogensen's style, it emphasizes his remarkable importance for the international success of Danish Modern and makes for a natural reintroduction by Carl Hansen & Son.
The chair presents a rugged elegance and a stringent, rational design, which lets the natural and enticing materials speak for themselves. Originally created with inspiration from the modern hunting lodge, the tactile materials fit perfectly with a present-day aesthetic, underlining the timeless qualities of Mogensen's vision.
Furthermore, the attention to detail is a testament to the designers' training as a cabinet maker. The organic wooden frame is embraced by the sturdy quality of saddle leather. Held taut by buckles and carefully skived for a smooth transition between layers, the result is a remarkable design. The height of the chair and the flexibility of the buckled saddle leather make the Huntsman Chair ideal as a dining chair as well as a lounge chair.
With its angled legs, rounded armrests and the swiveling backrest, mounted on brass or stainless steel brackets, the Huntsman Chair is a comfortable and flexible design that will last for decades.
