Professor Timo Sarpaneva's grandfather was a blacksmith and being around molten metal in his childhood inspired the designer to recreate a popular version of the ancient cast-iron pot.

A cult object of Finnish design. The Sarpaneva cast iron pot, sought after by collectors, is now back in production. An excellent example of the ability of Finnish design to combine practicality and beauty. This pot became such a favorite that it was featured on one of a collection of postage stamps celebrating the Finnish design elite.

The Sarpaneva cast iron pot has won several design awards, including the silver medal at the 1960 Milan Triennal.

Born in Helsinki, Timo Sarpaneva is one of the great personalities responsible for the world reputation of Finnish design since the 1950s. He is a master of materials as glass, porcelain, cast iron and textile as well as graphic art.
