For whichever way you roll. Merging curves, comfort and an unexpected angle, Thataway is hanging at the intersection of the nearly unassuming and "Whoa, what's that?" Blu Dot was formed in 1997 when John Christakos, Maurice Blanks, and Charlie Lazor commiserated about the lack of high-quality, affordable home furnishings that also appealed to their modernist aesthetics. They began as college friends trying to fill a void in the marketplace and have endured with highly-original furniture and products that join whimsy with practicality. The company thrives on collaboration and prides itself on having full control, taking care of each step in-house, from design, to manufacturing, to retail. Blu Dot is based in Minneapolis, and has flagship stores in LA and SoHo New York that display over 100 items from the collection.

Gorgeous design, but not comfortable at all
, less than a month ago.
I have to start with saying that I have loved this product from the moment I first saw it in the catalog. The design is so elegant and cool; it is just beautiful. So when the time went to purchase a sleeper, Thataway sleeper sofa was on the top of our list. We even visited a BluDot showroom to see it in person and to try it out. They had a sectional on the floor, not a sleeper, and while it was not a super cushy sink-in type of product, it was not uncomfortable. So after a long back and forth and searching for other options, we decided to buy this product.
The pros:
- It looks super cool
- The price is very reasonable
- It is really easy to turn it into a bed: it literally takes a few seconds, the top cushion just flips over, and it makes a full size bed.
The cons:
- The sofa itself is very firm and not very comfortable. We are hoping that in time if will soften and get a little better, similar to the floor model we sat on.
- There is a fairly large gap along the back of the sofa, between the backrest and the seat. It doesn’t look terrible, but it is visible. You can add some pillows to cover up the gap and make it more comfortable, but the seat is not very deep so there is not a lot of space for the pillows.
- A fitted sheet would not work on this bed. You have to tuck in a flat sheet around the sides (or use a mattress topper, see below, and put the sheets around the topper)
- This is the MOST uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on as far back as I can remember. I even put a memory foam topper over the bed and it was still not comfortable and felt as hard as a rock. Hopefully it will soften up a little as it gets used more overtime.
If you are looking for something that would be comfortable for sleeping and as an everyday sofa, this is not the right option for you.
If the style is the most important thing to you, then this would be a beautiful addition to any space.
