A. Mendini
The work of Milan’s Alessandro Mendini has greatly helped to develop Italian design, but Mendini often incorporates different cultures. He became a leader in his field by pushing boundaries and challenging convention, helping to bring about the 1970’s Radical Design movement. His 1974 Lassu chair, built atop a pyramid structure, is just one example of this. Thinking beyond furniture, Mendini also creates graphics, interiors, paintings, and architectures, his first discipline. He has also authored several articles and books and juried various architectural competitions. In 1982, he co-founded the first post-graduate design school, the Domus Academy. Currently he teaches at the University of Milan and runs the Atelier Mendini practice with his brother, Franciso Mendini.
Kartell's image and its 59 years of history are described through the company's products. The development, the corporate strategies, the attention the company has paid to technology, the project and the design can be appreciated by observing the products Kartell has produced. Kartell's products express the language and the atmosphere of the period in which they were created, but at the same time, they are "contemporary articles," they incorporate many other values and messages and this is why they have become an integral part of our domestic design world.
