Design Alessandro Mendini & Annalisa Margarini, 2005

Made by Alessi

Since 2004, the year of Anna G. and Alessandro M., we have all been waiting for a new element of surprise on the corkscrew front. Parrot, the practical, pocket-sized sommelier corkscrew, has been designed to meet these expectations. Stylish and fun, a great way to cork your wine.

The Parrot is made of polished aluminum and plastic with the levers in 18/10 stainless steeel. The Teflon-coated worm has 5 coils, comes with a knife to cut through foil and works in two steps, to ease the opening of any bottle. Available in your choice of colors.

Alessandro Mendini

A. Mendini

The work of Milan’s Alessandro Mendini has greatly helped to develop Italian design, but Mendini often incorporates different cultures. He became a leader in his field by pushing boundaries and challenging convention, helping to bring about the 1970’s Radical Design movement. His 1974 Lassu chair, built atop a pyramid structure, is just one example of this. Thinking beyond furniture, Mendini also creates graphics, interiors, paintings, and architectures, his first discipline. He has also authored several articles and books and juried various architectural competitions. In 1982, he co-founded the first post-graduate design school, the Domus Academy. Currently he teaches at the University of Milan and runs the Atelier Mendini practice with his brother, Franciso Mendini.
Alessi housewares and kitchen accessories
Alessi was founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi to produce crafted metal products for eating and drinking. In 1935, Carlo Alessi, son of Giovanni, was named chief designer. In 1945, he ascended to chief executive and designed the coffee service Bombe, an industrial piece manufactured in four sizes. That same year Carlo's younger brother, Ettore Alessi, joined the company as a technician. By the 1980s, Alberto Alessi took over the management of Alessi and launched the Alessi company into the design decade through collaborations with designers such as Philippe Starck and his playful three-legged Juicy Salif citrus squeezer.
