Sam Son is an easy armchair with a hint of a cartoon character. Propped up on 4 stilt legs, the chair features a softly suspended seat shell between a giant, horseshoe-shaped element, the chair's characteristic armrest and backrest. Made from two different rotational moldings, the chair combines a rigid plastic for its base and a more elastic polymer for the upper part. The exaggerated dimension of the armrest and backrest provides comfort and support, and creates a protective space for sitting. Sam Son comes in different colors and is suitable for both indoors and outdoors.
Konstantin Grcic was born in Munich, Germany in 1965. After training as a cabinet maker at Parnham College in England he studied design at the Royal College of Art in London from 1988-1990. Konstantin Grcic creates industrial products widely described as pared down, simple, minimalist. What sets him apart from the minimalism in fashionable currency today is that he defines function in human terms, combining maximum formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humor.
