bocci 21.14 random fourteen pendant chandelier

Design Omer Arbel, 2007
Raw porcelain, blown borosilicate glass, braided metal cable, steel
Made in Vancouver BC by Bocci

Inspired by the sporadic, perhaps discordant arrangement of barnacles on a rock surface, the 21 collection is fabricated from thin sheets of porcelain draped over inverted trumpet-shaped diffusers made of sandblasted borosilicate glass. The thin porcelain skin is allowed to dress the borosilicate core in whatever form occurs naturally - creating a unique shape in every iteration of the fabrication process. A strong contrast is established between the organically distributed soft light passing through the translucent white porcelain skin and the sharp, crisp light passing through the borosilicate glass diffuser.

21.14 is a random configuration of fourteen 21 pendants hung from either a round or rectangular canopy. The fixture can be specified with shortest & longest pendant lengths with the drop lengths of the other pendants randomized and fabricated by Bocci to variously cluster and scatter (custom lengths & configurations are also available, please call to specify). Fixtures come standard with 10' feet of coaxial cable. Additional cable lengths are available and can be customized in increments of 10' feet up to a maximum of 120' feet. Specified shortest and longest lengths are from the underside of the canopy to the bottom of the pendant. Please note: there may be a variance of +/- 2" on specified shortest and longest lengths.

Bocci Creative Director Omer Arbel explores the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials as fundamental departure points for making work. His interdisciplinary practice spans multiple scales and cultural-economic contexts. Omer Arbel's work has been exhibited in various museums around the world.

In 2005, Bocci was founded in a red barn surrounded by hay fields, on the periphery of Vancouver, Canada. The company launched with one product, 14, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. Today, Bocci has a growing portfolio of contemporary design ranging from light installations through to furniture and electrical sockets. All Bocci designs are developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale.

Headphone jack hardware allows the installer to attach the canopy to the ceiling before "plugging in" the individual pendants one by one. Bocci recommends mounting transformers remotely in a close, accessible and hidden location for ease of long term maintenance. Installation to be done by certified electrician to ensure code compliance. Canopy attaches directly to a standard junction box. Unless otherwise specified, one transformer is sent for every 3 grouping of pendants. Please call the hive showroom with any questions: 1-866-663-4483.
