series 7 side chair monochrome
Design Arne Jacobsen, 1955
Steel, laminated wood, powder-coat
Made by Fritz Hansen
The Series 7 celebrates its 60th birthday this year, and Fritz Hansen is marking the anniversary with a renewed focus on the beautiful chair. They have commissioned the world-famous artist Tal R to conjure up new colors to dress the icon in and have created a brand new look for the Series 7 by working with a monochrome color scheme.
Using the same color on both the frame and the shell gives the Series 7 a welcoming and warm expression that is new and refreshing and makes you see the chair differently. The monochrome chair appears as a sculpture. At the same time the monochrome look adds a new relevance to the Series 7 at a time where "monochrome" is topical, not only in art but also on the catwalk, in films and in interior decoration.
A multipurpose range of chairs, the Series 7 by Arne Jacobsen is the flagship of Fritz Hansen's collection. Consisting of a slim shell which is composed of 9 layers of veneer plus 2 layers of cotton textile and rests on a thin steel base. The lamination process coupled with the qualities inherent in the wood make the Series 7 flexible enough to adjust to the body's contours and movements.
Series 7 is available as a stackable side chair, pedestal chair, office chair, barstool or counter stool and as a children's chair. With a plethora of options and offerings, you're sure to find the perfect Series 7 chair for any space.
Arne Jacobsen was very productive both as an architect and as a designer. His cooperation with Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934. The Ant and Series 7 chairs, produced in 1952, propelled both Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen's names into furniture history. At the end of the 50's Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which introduced the Egg, the Swan, the Swan sofa and Series 3300 to the design world. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. His furniture and other design work have become a national and international heritage.
Note:
colored ash finish: wood grain is clearly visible through the color.
