Lake Led Wall Lamp

from foscarini

lake led wall lamp

lake led wall lamp

Design Lucidi e Pevere, 2015
Injection molded ABS
Made in Italy by Foscarini

A dense ink stain that spreads in water, the overhead view of a lake, with an irregular profile just like many of the shapes we find in nature. These are some of the pictures that spring to mind when we look at Lake, a wall lamp which stands out for its organic, asymmetrical shape filled with color. The slim space tucked within the bent edge of the lamp accommodates and conceals the LED light source, which casts a fluid light from this unusual location: from the external edge, the light is diffused inwards, shining along the glossy surface. When lit, the dense hues of the red and white diffusers gleam and come to life. When the lamp is switched off, Lake retains its decorative power and elegant personality. With its asymmetrical shape, Lake is especially ideal for compositions of color, light and movement to large walls.

A wall lamp with a diffused, reflected light. The Lake diffuser is made of liquid varnished injection molded ABS. The white epoxy powder varnished wall mount in die-cast steel acts as a heat sink for the LED board. The LEDs are directly powered without an adaptor and can be dimmed. The LED board is protected and hidden by a small polycarbonate diffuser. To increase the light and improve its distribution on the surface of the diffuser there are two reflecting screens in the LED housing. It can be installed in two positions, on a vertical axis with the light orientated upwards or downwards. Dimmable only with SEOUL-Acrich LED modules dimmer.

Riccardo Olivieri set up Foscarini Spa in Murano in 1981. Two years later, they debuted their catalog, with lamps from Carlo Urbinati and Allesandro Vecchiato, who would become the company's managers by 1988. Eventually these new owners would move the company off the island and into Venice, as well as transition Foscarini from a glassworks shop to a major design competitor. They had already begun working with external designers in 1985, but their first success came in 1990 with Rodolfo Dordoni's "Lumiere" Most all lighting projects were made of glass until 1993, at which point the Havana lamp primarily used polyethylene, making it lighter, more cost-effective, and able to be used indoors and outdoors. It now resides in the MoMA in New York. Other successful lamps would come to define the company, such as the "Mite & Tite" series by Marc Sadler in 2000 (which earned a Compasso d'oro), Patricia Urquiola's 2005 "Caboche" and Marc Sadler's signature lamp "Twiggy."
