apel small stool
from Bernhardt Design
apel small stool
Design Jessica Pell, 2011
Upholstery, foam
Made in USA by Bernhardt Design
Debuted in September 2011 as part of Bernhardt Design's contract furniture line, Apel is a family of ottomans born out of a desire to support and maximize the organic and spontaneous interactions between people. Stylistically versatile, highly customizable, and adaptable to a multitude of commercial and residential environments, Apel can be grouped and configured into various "clusters", with landscape formats serving as hubs or "planets" and small formats with optional casters as mobile "satellites". The line's modular and multi-directional nature encourages an unusually broad range of human interactions in various contexts all in a relaxed, contemporary form.
Inspired at a young age by the early modernists of her native Southern California, Jessica Pell's multidisciplinary approach to design is grounded in meaning and context, deep-rooted in metaphoric and poetic connections. As a student in the Environmental Design Program at the renowned Art Center College of Design, she pursued a variety of disciplines from product and exhibition design to residential and commercial architecture. Pell was awarded the prestigious Angelo Donghia Foundation award for her exhibition design entitled KIMONO. Her chair design entitled Truss was selected for exhibition at the Salone Satellite at the Milan International Furniture Fair for 2011.
Apel is offered in two sizes in your choice of upholstery. It features a matching saddle stitch. Optional mobile element adds 6 small concealed casters (wheels).
apel small: 22.25" w | 22.25" d | 17.5" h | seat: 17.25" h
apel small with casters: 22.25" w | 22.25" d | 17.5" h | seat: 17.5" h

Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world's first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Behar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
