spoon stool

Design Antonio Citterio, 2002
Made in Italy by Kartell

An original stool with an elastic form, as much in look as in function. The innovation of Spoon consists above all in the link between the seat and the central stem, achieved with a specially reinforced curve, which guarantees flexibility and comfort. In addition, thanks to a sophisticated design solution, the gas pump that is used to adjust the height from 22 to 30 inches, is perfectly built into the stem just as the handle used to work the mechanism is totally concealed inside the seat. Spoon fits perfectly into any environment, bathrooms, kitchens, bars, and fashionable restaurants with a non-conformist style.

Antonio Citterio has worked with various manufacturers in the field of industrial design since 1972. His designs have won many awards, which have included items in the museum of modern art's permanent collection.

Antonio Citterio

Italian designer Antonio Citterio (b. 1950) still lives and works in Milan since graduating in architecture from the Politcenico di Milano. He has made designs for many manufacturers, including : Ansorg, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Hackman, Iittala, Hansgrohe, Inda, Pozzi e Ginori, Kartell, Arclinea and Vitra. He operates his entirely own brand known for skilled craftsmanship in wood processing, Maxalto, under B&B Italia. The first Maxalto store opened in Paris, followed by Chicago and Miami. The company received new attention after appearing in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Citterio’s other work includes construction in Italy and abroad, as well as leading conferences and lectures.
Kartell's image and its 59 years of history are described through the company's products. The development, the corporate strategies, the attention the company has paid to technology, the project and the design can be appreciated by observing the products Kartell has produced. Kartell's products express the language and the atmosphere of the period in which they were created, but at the same time, they are "contemporary articles," they incorporate many other values and messages and this is why they have become an integral part of our domestic design world.

The Best of All Possible Stools
Pixie, more than a month ago.
I’ve gone through a few stools in my kitchen and they all failed at one thing or another. Finally getting fed up, I researched and studied all the stools I could find (modern ones, that is), finally coming upon this Kartell stool which, to me, is absolute perfection for a kitchen stool.
First, it is plastic, which means no upholstery to stain and very easy to wipe down and clean. Second, it is height adjustable. Third, it swivels. Fourth, the design is beautiful. Fifth, it is elegant and not clunky. Sixth, it is very comfortable.

I only wish it still came in orange. Now you can only get it in black or white.

great kitchen stool
geo, more than a month ago.
I've been sitting on these Kartell Spoon stools for a long, long time. I've still never found a better stool. Here's what I like:
- Adjustable for both counter and bar height. Very clever and near invisible adjustment mechanism.
- Swivels
- Integral foot rest
- low-ish back makes the stool less bulky looking in your kitchen.

Is the plastic slippery? Well, I guess so but until that other person's comment, I didn't know it was a problem. Let me be more clear. Slippery isn't an issue.

I've had no problems with the gas cylinders in my stools. I worry a bit that they may need replacement eventually.

I full attest: They're comfortable for long sits.

Awful stool!!! You fall/slide out of it. Nice sculpture, if that's what you need...
