Castore is a series of table, floor or pendant lights which offer diffused incandescent or halogen lighting. The spherical diffuser features white hand-blown glass, with external etched finish, the stem in steel tubing, covered by a tapered sleeve in white translucent molded polycarbonate, allowing for partial soft diffusion of light from the diffuser. The base is in die-cast metal alloy with white powder coated finish and a touch dimmer with chrome finish is incorporated in the base. Castore 14 is only available with a halogen source with on/off switch located on the cord.
Michele De Lucchi was born in 1951 in Ferrara and graduated in architecture in Florence. During the period of radical and experimental architecture he was a prominent figure in movements like Cavart, Alchymia and Memphis. De Lucchi has designed lamps and furniture for well known Italian and European companies. The firm's philosophy is rooted in the search for deep interaction between architectural thinking, industrial design and global communication.
