Design Jonathan Muecke, 2025
Solid wood frame & base, natural wood veneer top
Made by Knoll

Constructed of cylindrical dowels topped by a slim plane of wood, the Muecke Wood Table celebrates the natural beauty of wood in a rhythmic repetition of simple forms. It's offered in a choice of sizes for dining or work spaces. Jonathan Muecke approaches both furniture and sculpture with the goal of uncovering and articulating the inherent logic of his materials. The Muecke Wood Table evolved from his desire to celebrate all characteristics of wood, including the end grain. He succeeded by rounding wood into dowels and devising a joinery method to connect them where they overlap.

Muecke first trained as an architect and interned with Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron before pursuing an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art and establishing his own practice. In 2011, Muecke made his debut with a solo exhibition at Chicago’s Volume Gallery. In 2014 he was commissioned to design the architectural pavilion at Design Miami. In 2016, he was invited by Maniera Gallery in Brussels to create objects in response to the Brutalist Van Wassenhove House. His work is part of many major museum collections, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the CNAP (Centre National des Arts Plastiques) in France, and the Vitra Design Museum in Germany.

Knoll has remained true to the Bauhaus design philosophy that furniture should complement architectural space and not compete with it. Modernism is a passion at Knoll which results in ground breaking modern furniture.
