Centimetre Rug

by Eileen Gray from Classicon

centimetre rug

Design Eileen Gray, 1920-1935
100% hand-spun New Zealand virgin wool
Made by Classicon

Designed for the Salon of her Villa E1027, the Centimetre Rug highlights the number 10 with a mysterious code, a nod to the tenth letter of the alphabet: J for Jean Badovici, with whom she designed the Villa Maison au Bord de Mer E1027. Numerals and icons, such as fragmentary elements of everyday objects, can be found in Eileen Gray's rug designs of the later 1920s. They are allusions to her wide interests encountered in her creative life.

Eileen Gray not only created some of the most important 20th century furniture classics but also had her own studio where rugs were produced according to her designs. Some of her most beautiful patterns are now again available: masterpieces of abstract textile art of 100% pure new wool, natural vegetable dye, hand-woven and processed to the highest quality with a density of 80 knots per square inch.

Made of hand-spun New Zealand virgin wool. Environmentally friendly color pigments, tested according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. Low-maintenance, suitable for vacuum cleaners. Please note, +/- 5cm dimensional tolerances are possible. Custom sizes are also available, please contact Hive for assistance ordering.

Eileen Gray

Eileen Gray was one of the pioneers who created what we now call modern design. The lone woman amongst her peers, her name is spoken in the same breath as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer.
At ClassiCon you will find innovative furniture that has the courage to depart from familiar ground. Some pieces carry big names and can look back on a proud design history while others are at the beginning of writing their own stories.
