poul kjaerholm pk22 easy chair in wicker

Design Poul Kjaerholm, 1956
Satin brushed stainless steel, wicker
Made in Denmark by Fritz Hansen

The PK22 easy chair from Fritz Hansen's "Poul Kjaerholm collection". Simple elegance, a typical Kjaerholm design - with the combination of steel and wicker or leather - in an exclusive and minimalist design. The discrete and elegant PK22 easy chair stands as an icon for Poul Kjærholm's work.

Poul Kjærholm had a particular interest in various construction materials; especially steel, which he considered a natural material. He was a trained carpenter who continued studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He moved on to work at Fritz Hansen, for about a year, where he designed a number of noteworthy chair prototypes. In 1955, Kjærholm started collaborating with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, which lasted until his death in 1980. In 1982, Fritz Hansen took over the production and sales of "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967, designs, which are logical to the minute detail with an aura of exclusivity.

PK22 easy chair has a satin-brushed stainless spring steel base and available in your choice of leathers or wicker.

Poul Kjaerholm

Poul Kjærholm (1929 –1980) began as a cabinetmaker’s apprentice and had a particular interest in various construction materials. After studying at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, he worked briefly for Fritz Hansen, designing many notable chair prototypes. In 1955, Kjærholm began a lifelong partnership with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen. After Kjærholm’s death, many of those pieces were handled by manufacturing firm Fritz Hansen. However, in 2004, Kjærholm's son established Kjærholm Productions, to produce those items of his father's furniture that Fritz Hansen had discontinued production of in 2003. Kjærholm’s designs are in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and other museum collections in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany.
Fritz Hansen has become a natural part of Danish and International design history. Fritz Hansen is characterized by craftsmanship, unique design and a sense of premium quality. Furniture designers such as Arne Jacobsen & Poul Kjaerholm have contributed to the collection with beautifully shaped designs and the use of innovative techniques and new materials.
