PH 3.5/3 Pendant
by Poul Henningsen, from Louis Poulsen - sale
ph 3.5/3 pendant
Design Poul Henningsen, 1926
Powder-coated aluminum, silk brown finished copper
Made in Denmark by Louis Poulsen
"...it is an art to make light both economical and glare free." - Poul Henningsen
To mark Poul Henningsen's 120th birthday on 9 September, Louis Poulsen is launching the new PH 3.5-3 pendant. The PH 3.5-3 pendant is based on Poul Henningsen's original drawings from the late 1920s and early 1930s, featuring his renowned three-shade system. The pendant has metal shades, available in green, yellow, red and white. The fixture housing is silk mat brown and made of copper. All colors are based on Poul Henningsen's color universe. Like the designer, the fixtures are colorful! As an extra feature, all shades have a white painted rolled edge, accentuating the familiar profile of the three-shade fixture and creating beautiful optical symmetry. The shades are pressed at Louis Poulsen's factory in Vejen, by Louis Poulsen's own staff - a craft only very few are trained in. Although the fixture is over 80 years old, it is both modern and classic at the same time, making it ideally suited to a broad range of interior design environments. It is seen as a charming, rustic, functional and unpretentious fixture. The PH 3.5-3 pendant is a piece of Danish lighting design history. It provides functional, decorative light, and gives any interior a boost simply by being there, whether lit or unlit. It is beautiful alone, or grouped with other fixtures.
Poul Henningsen's lifelong collaboration with Louis Poulsen Lighting began in 1925 and lasted until his death. To this day, Louis Poulsen still benefits from his genius. Poul Henningsen's pioneering work concerning the relations between light structures, shadows, glare, and color reproduction-compared to man's need for light remains the foundation of the lighting theories still practiced by Louis Poulsen.
PH 3.5/3 is offered with powder-coated aluminum shades and a silk brown finished copper stem. It includes 9' feet of white cord and a white ceiling cap.
The PH 3.5/3 is also available in a version with white handblown opal glass shades.

Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen (1894-1967) was born in Copenhagen to the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He never graduated as an architect, but started practicing traditional functionalistic architecture. This led him to focus on what he would become the most well-known for, lighting; although he also had a significant literary career. At the beginning of WWII, he was forced to flee Denmark during the German occupation but soon became a vital part of the Danish colony of artists living in Sweden.
Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen was founded in 1874. Some of the company's designers are Arne Jacobsen and Poul Henningsen. Henningsen created the well known PH Lamps and the iconic "Artichoke" Lamp. Louis Poulsen is one of the worlds most innovative manufacturers of designer lighting.
