Design Verner Panton, 1971
Deep drawn steel or acrylic shade, die-cast aluminum base
Made by Louis Poulsen

"The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination."- Verner Panton

The designer and architect Verner Panton created Panthella in collaboration with Louis Poulsen in 1971. Panton's figurative and playful design radiates his larger-than-life personality. Without compromising on quality or functionality, the world-renowned Dane continued to develop new materials for the colorful and captivating spaces that he created from his enticing designs. Panthella stands out as one of Panton's most significant design icons with its organic shape that mirrors the softest of light. Panton intended to create a light where both the stand and the shade served as a reflector, combining it with the organic shapes for which the Danish designer is known. With its non-glaring light, Panthella serves as a beautiful example of Verner Panton's brilliant ability to create atmospheric illumination. The Panthella Portable lamp is a down-scaled version of Verner Panton's popular Panthella Table lamp from 1971.

Panthella Portable can be used anywhere as it does not depend on a power supply, both indoors and outdoors as it is certified for damp locations. The handy Panthella Portable is available with a translucent white opal acrylic shade and white trumpet stem, or with a translucent grey opal acrylic shade and high-luster chrome trumpet as in Panton's original finishes for the larger Panthella designs from 1971. In 2022, the range is extended with variants with metal shades in three colors: Pale Blue, Pale Rose and Coral, all of which are perfectly aligned with modern interior trends. The metal variants concentrate the light downwards towards the surface beneath the lamp to create a focused ambience. This portable version of Panthella makes enjoying both the design and quality of its light easier as the lamp can be charged in advance via a USB port. When charged, the lamp is easy and convenient to move around to create an attractive and exclusive atmosphere on the patio during summer, in the al fresco restaurant or elsewhere where access to a power point is not available. Its timeless and iconic design, accessible price point and size make it a superb gift as it fits easily into any interior. Panthella Portable comes with a USB-C cable and has three dimming options. The USB adaptor must be purchased separately.

* 2.5W, 2700K integrated LED
* Step dimming with button on base
* White Opal & Pale Rose include white charging cable
* All other colors come with a black charging cable
* QI charger and adapter not included (compatible with standard USB adapters, min 1.5A)
* IP44

Verner Panton

Verner Panton (1926 – 1998) created innovative, futuristic designs in vibrant colors with a variety of materials. Many of his well-known furniture designs have remained in continuous production and others have been reintroduced. Panton studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Art graduating in 1951. He subsequently worked in the architecture office of Arne Jacobsen. Panton started his own design and architectural practice and was well known for his innovative architectural proposals including a collapsible house, the Cardboard House and the Plastic House. In 1953 Panton converted a Volkswagen bus into a mobile studio and travelled across Europe. He returned to Denmark full of ideas, one of which evolved into the iconic Heart Cone Chair. Based on his vision of a one-piece one material cantilever chair, Panton in collaboration with Vitra developed the first cantilever plastic chair. The Panton chair became his most famous design and has been in production since 1967.
Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen was founded in 1874. Some of the company's designers are Arne Jacobsen and Poul Henningsen. Henningsen created the well known PH Lamps and the iconic "Artichoke" Lamp. Louis Poulsen is one of the worlds most innovative manufacturers of designer lighting.
