"If I have a philosophy, it must be to sit at my drawing board." -Arne Jacobsen
The Giraffe chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1959, specifically for the restaurant at the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Its high back and padded armrests make for a cosy and comfortable seat. The Little Giraffe chair is an evolution of its iconic predecessor - a striking rendition suitable for hospitality, meeting rooms or dining spaces.
Arne Jacobsen was very productive both as an architect and as a designer. His cooperation with Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934. The Ant and Series 7 chairs, produced in 1952, propelled both Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen's names into furniture history. At the end of the 1950's Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which introduced the Egg, the Swan, the Swan sofa and Series 3300 to the design world. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. His furniture and other design work have become a national and international heritage.
The Little Giraffe is available with a fixed (online version) or removable (please call the hive showroom to specify) cover. Since the chair is upholstered without glue it gives both functional flexibility and visual versatility, whether you are looking to exchange the cover or simply remove it for cleaning. The Little Giraffe is upholstered with a double stitching which beautifully outlines the silhouette of the chair.
The base for the Little Giraffe comes in two versions. One is a star base on wheels with an adjustable height, whilst the other is a fixed four-legged base. The star base is available in satin polished aluminium or in black powder coated finish. The four-legged base is available in high gloss chrome or black powder coat.
The sculptural Arne Jacobsen armchair has never been in production until now and we are pleased to shine a light on a modern era design fit for contemporary living, whether at home or in public.
