Design Jasper Morrison, 2015
Recycled aluminum, reclaimed polypropylene, plywood
Made in USA by Emeco

"I'm more and more interested in working towards designs which take part in everyday life as naturally as possible." -Jasper Morrison

For the 1 Inch Collection, Jasper Morrison tapped into Emeco's heritage in hand crafting recycled aluminum, and leveraged its signature strength, light weight, and sustainability. Emeco and Jasper Morrison together have created a collection that reflects Emeco's values and uncompromising standards - a seating family that is strong, simple, timeless, and engineered to last.

The bare bones of a good chair. A one inch size, square extruded aluminum tube was selected for the strength- to-weight ratio, using the least amount of material to yield the maximum amount of strength, while achieving the desired comfort and aesthetics.

The 1 Inch family of seats features a chair, armchair and stools in three heights. Seats and backs are available in various materials to suit a variety of applications: 100% reclaimed wood polypropylene, plywood versions in ash and walnut sourced from sustainable forests in North America, and upholstered selections in fabric and leather. All frames are handcrafted from recycled aluminum and available in two versions: hand brushed, clear anodized finish, or black powder coated finish. Frames in hand brushed, clear anodized aluminum with plastic seat/back are suitable for outdoor use. Includes soft plastic TPU glides.

25.2" w | 19.4" d | 30.8" h | seat: 17.6" h | arms: 26" h | 8-9 lbs.

Jasper Morrison

Jasper Morrison (b. 1959) is an English product and furniture designer from London. He received a Bachelor of Design degree from Kingston Polytechnic Design School in 1982 and a Masters degree in Design from the Royal College of Art, London, in 1985. He also studied at the Berlin University of the Arts, formerly the Hochschule der Künste (HdK). While a student, he gained a keen interest in modernist pioneers, such as Buckminster Fuller, Gerald Summers, Jean Prouvé and Le Corbusier. Morrison's objects provide a quiet contrast to the creative exuberance of the Eighties. The visual restraint, high functionalism and constructive simplicity attract attention to his work.
Founded in 1944 by Wilton C. Dinges, the Electrical Machine and Equipment Company (Emeco) holds on tightly to their foundation of craftsmanship, utilitarian design, and history. Their origins lie in a collaboration with the aluminum giant Alcoa to develop an indestructible and useful chair for military use in Navy submarines and warships. Today Emeco is led by CEO Gregg Buchbinder who sums up their vision as design plus craftsmanship. Looking toward the future, Buchbinder has brought in Philippe Starck and Frank Gehry. With Starck, they developed the Hudson Chair. With Gehry, they created the acclaimed Superlight chair. In 2008, Emeco launched the Nine-O Collection by Ettore Sottsass and in the following year the Morgans chair by Andree Putman, designed for the restored Morgans Hotel.
