via57 lounge chair

Design Bjarke Ingels & Kibisi, 2016
Steel frame, polyurethane foam, upholstery, wood legs
Made by Fritz Hansen

This lounge chair by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels designed in collaboration with Danish design group KiBiSi, is as many other furniture pieces in the history of Fritz Hansen designed for a specific location - the VIA 57WEST building in New York City. The VIA57 lounge chair brings together the best from the two worlds - Scandinavian elegance and American comfort. The shape of the chair refers to the triangular shape of the building.

The chair is composed of a steel frame embedded in molded soft polyurethane foam. Two different densities create the soft yet firm comfort. The thick seat upholstery offers great comfort without losing visual elegance while the rounded backside and the piping refers to Fritz Hansen's master collection. The solid oak base features a clear lacquer finish with mounted plastic glides and creates an elegant finish towards the floor letting the chair almost float in space.

The collection consists of an element that can be used in a multitude of ways. It can be positioned individually so you have easy access to the chair from several sides or it can be placed in sofa-like formations. This offers great flexibility hence the VIA57 lounge chair can fit into various interiors such as lobbies, receptions, lounges and private homes.
