striad low back lounge chair with 4 star base
Design Jehs+Laub, 2016
Die-cast aluminum, thermoplastic polymers, upholstery
Made by Herman Miller®
A distinct presence, sleek and contoured form, and premium comfort, Striad contemporizes the concept of a lounge chair. Inspired by the construction of high-performance ski boots, Stuttgart-based designers Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub designed the Striad Lounge Chair and Ottoman in layers to deliver a premium experience of comfort. The outermost layer, a rigid shell, is merged with an inner shell constructed of a natural fiber composite material, which is then fully upholstered. Individually upholstered dual-density foam cushions form the third layer, resulting in an optimal combination of firm support and supple, pliable comfort.
Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub live and work in Stuttgart, Germany and have been renowned for their modern classic furniture and lighting designs as well as interior projects, most notably, suite 606, at the ice hotel in northern sweden and the worldwide master concept for Mercedes-benz® showrooms. After attending germany's prestigious school of design in schwäebisch gmuend, the team cemented their friendship during an internship in new York and later founded jehs+laub in 1994. The partnership has been the recipient of numerous international design awards.
A rigid outer shell provides the foundation for the Striad collection. The Inner shell is made with a combination of natural fibers, such as hemp, flax, jute, and sisal with thermoplastic polymers. The fabric is layered with individually upholstered dual-density foam cushions provide the softness people expect of a lounge chair. The shell and cushions can be specified in contrasting textiles, or the same textile for a consistent look.
The Collection is offered in low-, mid-, or high-back versions, each with a choice of a four-star auto-return base or fixed four-leg wire base-as well as several finish and upholstery options-Striad can be outfitted appropriately for a multitude of spaces.
