Design Mario Bellini, 1998
Injection molded polypropylene
Made in USA by Heller

"An all-time classic that will be hard to beat." -Abitare

The Bellini chair is often hailed as a piece of modern sculpture in its own right... a versatile and low-cost chair that appeals to the senses. The Bellini Chair has the uncanny ability to elevate its surroundings... a grouping can transform even the most dreary sidewalk into an impromptu 'design happening' that excites and invites dialogue. A smart choice for the home, restaurant or office... the question becomes not whether you should specify the Bellini chair, but how many?

Mario Bellini

Like many other Italian architects, Mario Bellini (b. 1935) also works in urban planning, as well as product and furniture design. He began as an architect in the early 1960s after graduating from the Milan Polytechnic – Faculty of Architecture. Some of his most popular designs remain in New York’s MoMA, including many business machines for Olivetti (for whom he was chief design consultant from ’63 to ’91), his famous “cab” chair for Cassina, and other renowned furniture for B&B and Vitra. From there, his design work expanded to TV sets for Brionvega, stereos and electric organs for Yamaha, and a 5-year stint as an automobile design consultant for Renault, while also designing for Fiat and Lancia cars.
Heller has created a simple paradigm: good design, industrial production and reasonable prices. The company’s very first product line, in 1971, was Massimo Vignelli’s stacking dinnerware that went on to win a Compasso d’Oro award and is included in the MoMA permanent design collection. They rolled out their furniture line in 1998, beginning with the Bellini Chair, designed by Mario Bellini. It also claimed a Compasso d’Oro. Bellini designed more noteworthy chairs: The UltraBellini Chair (2006), the MB 1, MB 2 and MB 5. Heller continues to explore new technologies in furniture manufacturing.
