Metal frame, Polycarbonate lenses, ultra thin suspension wire
Made in The Netherlands by Moooi

"Heracleum arrived at Moooi as a fantasy. I had the wish to light many LED-lights at the same time. I experimented with bundles of electricity wires that I shaped into a branch structure. During the development of the design it just seemed that too much soldering was required. Then Marcel Wanders had the 'luminous' idea to use his ELECTROSANDWICH® to make the design possible. The structure was coated with a plastic layer for isolation and on top of that a conductive layer to supply the LEDs with power. Using this technique it was possible to create a structure more slender than I had hoped for when I started the project. The technique and design are perfect for each other." - Bertjan Pot

Bertjan Pot is a designer of mostly furniture and lighting. His methods are concentrated in his interest in skins of the structural and non-structural kind. He studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He considers theory as something to think about and something to discuss when not designing. ?"When it comes to designing one should just design without being blocked by too many theories."

The decorative Heracleum LED lamp was inspired by the Heracleum plant. The white leaves/lenses ramify from one branch creating a very technical, natural structure. By using the technique of coating conductive layers, the lamp is very thin and delicate. A design not possible with normal wires. Heracleum II includes a new LED that allows endless technical possibilities, making this new version much more efficient while providing unique and sparkling illumination. Offered in copper or nickel. Dimmable.

Bertjan Pot

Bertjan Pot (b. 1975) of the Netherlands focuses in the material and production processes. He enjoys computer aesthetics and industrial production methods, but arrives at them without using them as a design tool. Almost all of his designs come from experiments in materials. His results often display merely the skin of his chosen material, creating translucence in his lighting and furniture, such as his popular Carbon Chair, Random Light, Random Chair, or Knitted lamp. In the case of the Random Light, a resin drained yarn is randomly coiled around and inflatable beach ball, creating a translucent 3D fabric. The ball is then deflated and extracted from a round opening in the lamp, leaving only the “skin.”
Founded in 2001 by complementing personalities Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers, Moooi is named after the native Dutch word for “beautiful”. According to the company, “the third ‘o’ in the brand name stands for an extra value in terms of beauty & uniqueness.” In additon to Wanders’ work, Moooi has produced work from Bertjan Pot, Maarten Baas, Ross Lovegrove and Studio Job. Ultimately, Wanders is responsible for the overall design selection process.
