Design Gae Aulenti, 1993
Glass, steel, rubber
Made in Italy by FontanaArte

One of the most unique tables around. The Tour table features a base consisting of four rotating rubber wheels holding a .6" glass top. Each of the wheels are fixed to the top by four stainless steel plates and chromium-plated brackets. A definite conversation piece in any environment.

After Ms. Aulenti was awarded with her degree in 1953, she worked for the Italian magazine helmed by Ernesto Rogers, Casabella-Continuita. Since 1956, the year she started working in Milan, Ms. Aulenti's job descriptions have included architectural planning, interiors and scenography designing. Later, while working with the Muse'Orsay and the new Mus National dart Moderne section, Gea Aulenti was put in charge of renovations as well as the staging of many other temporary exhibits. She has received a number of awards and has designed many products for FontanaArte.

The Fontana Arte company was formed in 1932 by Gio Ponti under the parent company Luigi Fontana, a leader in advanced glass manufacturing and design. Ponti was a skilled artist in many trades as well as the editor of Domus magazine. He had an intuition to use glass as a distinguishing feature in furniture, lamps and objects. Already designing homes, he could employ this concept in the interior décor. Fontana Arte produced many ornate stained-glass windows in churches, cathedrals, and palaces, including the Duomo of Milan and the Cathedral of Brasilia. Years later, the company has built a name collaborating with respected designers and architects. Fontana Arte continues to evolve and reach out to work with more designers and other companies.
