Design Marcel Wanders, 2007
Plaster, aluminum alloy, glass
Made in Italy by Flos

"In my former house I had a fabulous antique decorated plaster ceiling. I called it my Skygarden...I loved it so much that by the time I moved houses I had to find a way to take it to my new home. I took my tools and stole it....This fabulous piece of history is now secretly hidden in a minimalist architectural sphere in the heart of my new home where I can enjoy it with friends."
-Marcel Wanders, 2007.

Skygarden is a suspension luminaire providing diffused light from its half-dome diffuser. The inside is white, cast plaster with an intricately designed garden pattern, the bulb is covered by a detailed opal glass diffuser and the outside is available in your choice of four finish options.

Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders (1963) was born and raised in Boxtel, the Netherlands, and graduated cum laude from the Institute of the Arts Arnhem in 1988, after briefly attending the Design Academy Eindhoven. Wanders first drew international recognition for his 'Knotted Chair' produced by the Dutch design brand Droog, in 1996. The 'Knotted Chair' has since been acquired by the permanent collection of the MoMA. From his studio in Westerhuis, Amsterdam, he designs for manufacturers, such as: Alessi, B&B Italia, Bisazza, Poliform, Moroso, Flos, Boffi, Cappellini, Droog and Moooi.
The furniture manufacturers and entrepreneurs Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina founded Flos which became one of the leading Italian light manufacturers in the second half of the 20th century. Its origins lay in the energy of Arturo Eisenkeil who, in 1959, was seeking to find applications for a new, plastic-based material that he was importing to Italy from the United States. Called ‘cocoon’, it was a spray-on plastic coating that Gavina and Cassina recognized as having potential for lighting design. From the outset, Flos established its reputation through its innovative lighting designs from Achille Castiglioni. The collaboration with Achille Castiglioni continued through the '90s, and in 1992 he introduced the "family of products" concept to the market with the Brera series. At the same time, Flos continued to scout for emerging talent at an international level. The first Philippe Starck lamp, Ârà, was produced in 1998, followed by the Miss Sissi lamp, Romeo Moon, and Archimoon series.
