"Heracleum arrived at Moooi as a fantasy. I had the wish to light many LED-lights at the same time. I experimented with bundles of electricity wires that I shaped into a branch structure. During the development of the design it just seemed that too much soldering was required. Then Marcel Wanders had the 'luminous' idea to use his ELECTROSANDWICH® to make the design possible. The structure was coated with a plastic layer for isolation and on top of that a conductive layer to supply the LEDs with power. Using this technique it was possible to create a structure more slender than I had hoped for when I started the project. The technique and design are perfect for each other." - Bertjan Pot
Bertjan Pot is a designer of mostly furniture and lighting. His methods are concentrated in his interest in skins of the structural and non-structural kind. He studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He considers theory as something to think about and something to discuss when not designing. "When it comes to designing one should just design without being blocked by too many theories."
The Heracleum lamp by Bertjan Pot & Marcel Wanders is a force of nature! The Heracleum Small Big O LED suspension lamp was inspired by the Heracleum plant. The white leaves/lenses ramify from one branch creating a very technical, natural structure. By using the technique of coating conductive layers, the lamp is very thin and delicate. A design not possible with normal wires.
Heracleum Small Big O includes 2 power supplies and 6 suspension points. Cord can be shortened down to 11.8" inches. Please note the large size of this product and measure all entries accordingly. The lamp does not disassemble. Please call for a list of dimmers rated for this product. Professional installation recommended. Offered in white, copper or nickel. Dimmable.
