Design Michael Anastassiades, 2014
Brass, blacked or chromed steel, blown glass opal diffuser
Made in Italy by Flos

The IC collection explores balance. There are a series of lights: table, wall, ceiling pendants and ceiling mounted lights which take their basic form from a sphere that is perfectly balanced on the edge of a rod.

"I came across an online video clip of a contact juggler. He was spinning a set of spheres, moving them around on his arms and edge of his fingers. And as I got mesmerized by the magic of his skill, suddenly the spheres look perfectly still. I wanted to capture that exact moment. This was my starting point. The initials IC come from the codes that English police use to define the perceived ethnicity of a person they stop in the street when reporting back to the station. IC1 means white person or Northern European type, IC2 means Mediterranean European/Hispanic, IC3 indicates an African/Afro-Caribbean person, and so on, so this is a playful story to define the different designs." -Michael Anastassiades

The IC collection features a brass, black, burgundy or chromed steel frame with a blown glass opal diffuser. Includes 0-100% dimmer on black cord. Please call the hive showroom with any questions: 1-866-663-4483.

The furniture manufacturers and entrepreneurs Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina founded Flos which became one of the leading Italian light manufacturers in the second half of the 20th century. Its origins lay in the energy of Arturo Eisenkeil who, in 1959, was seeking to find applications for a new, plastic-based material that he was importing to Italy from the United States. Called cocoon™, it was a spray-on plastic coating that Gavina and Cassina recognized as having potential for lighting design. From the outset, Flos established its reputation through its innovative lighting designs from Achille Castiglioni. The collaboration with Achille Castiglioni continued through the '90s, and in 1992 he introduced the "family of products" concept to the market with the Brera series. At the same time, Flos continued to scout for emerging talent at an international level. The first Philippe Starck lamp was produced in 1998, followed by the Miss Sissi lamp, Romeo Moon, and Archimoon series.

Fred, more than a month ago.
This light is a work of art. I've had it for six months and still find myself staring at it. The bulb is small but gets very bright with the dimmer turned all the way up (bright enough you can't stare directly at it for too long). With the dimmer turned all the way down, the light gives off a very soft orange glow.
